Hiding in plain sight, in the heart of Rome, the area of Monti is a gem waiting to be explored. This gorgeous neighbourhood is a favourite among locals and tourists alike, thanks to its picturesque streets, vibrant atmosphere, and rich history. From pastel coloured apartment blocks covered in Jasmine to cute little squares and steps to admire, Monti has got a really special vibe.
One of the most striking features of Monti is its cobblestone streets and historic buildings, which give the area a timeless feel. As you wander through the narrow alleyways, you’ll stumble upon quaint cafes, boutique shops, and art galleries, making it the perfect place to get lost and discover something new. I bought a gorgeous pair of baby blue leather boots in a vintage shop here not so long ago, leaving me truly hooked on the area!
Monti is also home to some of Rome’s most iconic landmarks, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. These ancient ruins are just a short walk away, allowing you to immerse yourself in the city’s rich history and culture. I should add, the church in the photos below is thought to be Rome’s oldest church, Santa Pudenziana is just gorgeous and well worth a visit.
But Monti isn’t just about history – it’s also a hub for creativity and innovation. The neighbourhood is filled with trendy bars, restaurants, and vintage shops, making it a mecca for fashionistas and foodies alike. Whether you’re looking for a delicious meal, a unique souvenir, or a hip place to grab a drink, Monti has something for everyone.
In addition to its bustling streets and vibrant nightlife, Monti also offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The neighbourhood is home to several beautiful parks and gardens, where you can relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing.
In my opinion, Monti is a must-visit destination for anyone travelling to Rome. It’s a firm fave of mine and I never tire of going there for a wander and a cheeky Aperol Spritz… Its unique blend of history, culture, and modernity makes it a truly special place that will capture your heart and leave you wanting more. So next time you find yourself in Rome, be sure to make a stop in Monti and experience all that this marvellous quarter has to offer.
